Big Win in NDHL Playdowns
This past weekend saw playdown action for the Glancaster Bombers Atom A Team as they start the road towards OMHA and NDHL finals!  Game one saw action between Welland and Glacaster that ended in a 2-2 tie.  The afternoon game put the Bomber's against the West Niagara Flying Aces and ended in a tough loss.  Saturday morning put us in action against Stoney Creek which ended in a loss, putting the team in must win territory for the last two games in the round robin.  The boy’s really stepped up and won a hard-fought battle against Niagara Falls 2-1 on Saturday night and Garden City 5-1 on Sunday morning.  The team landed 4th after round robin play and advanced to play first place Welland Sunday afternoon for a chance to move to the next round of playdowns.

The game against the Welland Tigers saw some fierce competition!  Both teams came out strong and finished the first period even at 0-0.  Shortly into the second period Welland scored its first goal, followed quickly by a second less then a minute later!  The Bombers continue to push hard and finally found the back of the net with 4:41 left in the second as #16 Cowen McDonald scored assisted by #96 Seth McCarten and #10 Luke van den Heuvel. The third period continued to see strong pressure from the Bombers!  At the 7:52 mark in the period the team saw their second goal by #88 Nicolas Sgreccia, assisted by #10 Luke Van den Heuvel to draw even with the Welland Tigers.  As the minutes counted down and the pressure mounted the Bombers were able to strike again with 3:35 minutes remaining with a goal by #86 Jace Nossey assisted by #29 Cole Murphy.  The boys, with the help of a strong performance by goalie #31 Nathan Foster who faced 37 shots, were able to hold off the Tigers for the remaining three and a half minutes of the game, and came out victorious against Welland!

The big win this past weekend moves the boys into a play down series with the West Niagara Flying Aces with games on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday of this week.  The winner of this series will continue in their quest for a OMHA title!
