U16 A try outs
Welcome all players and parents. My name is Dominic Carusi and I will be the coach for the U16 A team this year. Tryouts begin Monday May 9, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
Who is the coach? I am sure there has been some curiosity as to who I am and how I aim to impact the players this season.
Hi, I'm Dom!
Most of my rep coaching was done in Milton, and I was honored to be part of the coaching staff that led my son's team to win a Tri County championship in 2011. We followed that with the OMHA championship and a trip to the OHF! As parents, I'm sure you can relate to the pride and joy I felt seeing my son and his teammates/friends develop over a season, and exceed our expectations with GOLD. However, when my son decided to retire, I wasn't ready to. I went back as a non parent coach and lead 2 teams to the championships.
I moved to Hamilton last year and I reached out to your organization to see if I could be of help to any team.
I have utilized Hockey Canada procedures for conducting a try out and guidelines for player evaluations. I am excited to be using the Hockey Canada model to run my try outs to be fair to all the players that want to be a part of this season.
We will start with skating and then move to puck handling and shooting. The players will be rated by the evaluators from 1 (needs improvement) to 5 (proficient). Once we have moved to a smaller group, we will be evaluating positioning and team tactics. I can't wait to see what your star brings to the table in two-three exhibition games to look for their "X" factor and see how they interact with their teammates.
My try out will look different from some of the others that you may have attended but it will be the most effective way to ensure that I am fair will all players.
The try out skates have been cut down to 1 hour so we have to ensure we make the best of the time on the ice.
I understand we may have up to 6 goalies to review. Most of the evaluations for the goalies has already been done.
I will do my best to get as many reps in as possible to get a good look. We may have to split them over 2 skates to get a good look at all of them.
